When you start to explore any genre of music, you realize that there is a lot of music in that genre that doesn't get any attention, but should. Mike Osborn is a great example. He is a blues guitarist that you may not hear on any radio station (not that many stations bother to play the blues) outside of San Jose where he calls home. That being said, it doesn't take long to figure out that the guy is pretty good at playing the blues guitar.

Osborn's music is based in the blues, but he does a good job bringing other influences into his sound. "Lovin' Time" is a good blend of blues and soul with a dash of funk in the bass. "Cold Man Cold" has sort of a psychedelic blues rock sound. The theme, however, is pure blues. What's cold is the fact that his woman "just up and hit the road". Granted, it's not the first song ever written about the theme of a woman leaving, but it is a good one. It's not the only familiar theme on this album. Like John Lee Hooker, he sings about women and whiskey - both of the cheap variety because after all, a blues man is usually on a budget to say the least.

Mike Osborn is a very talented blues guitarist who is not afraid to mix things up with his sound. If you're a fan of the blues at all, this is an album you'll enjoy. (Gary Schwind)
