Country artist Kris Hitchcock is originally from Michigan but has lived in the beautiful city of Nashville, Tennessee for many years now. He has built a dedicated and loyal fan base that is guaranteed to contribute to his success as an artist and songwriter. He recently released his new album Bright Lights and Dark Ages which is certain to make waves on country radio.

Bright Lights and Dark Ages is an album that can appeal to everyone - there are songs with a rock feel, some more mellow, some that tackle deeper subjects, and some just to lighten the mood. This album includes a track list of 12 songs and features many talented co-writers such as Ryan Hurd, Jordan Davis, Adam Doleac, and Eli Rhodes among many others. The first song, "What If," was written solely by Hitchcock and also serves as part of the inspiration for the new album's title with the "bright lights" reference in its lyrics. "Friday Night Out Here," the current single, is a feel good song about enjoying a Friday night out in the country with a couple beers and a couple friends after a long work week. (Say it's a tired cliché all you want, but it's still tried and true to an authentic country life). With lyrics like, "...we're the pay your dues, Johnny Cash infused," "Out Of Style" was written as a response to a bar owner who expected something more than country music to be played in his establishment.

The fourth song on the album, "Vinyl," has a smooth jazzy kind of feel. "Fast Angel" describes a particular type of woman, one who has the power to slow down a man who's always on the move. Listening to the sixth song, "Tag Along," immediately made me think of rising band Old Dominion, with its infectious beat and catchy lyrics written by Hitchcock and Jordan Davis. There always seems to be a story of "all or nothing" on an album and on this one it's found in the "too busy living to worry ?bout dying" lyrics of "Going For Broke Again." Now I usually have to listen to an album a few times over before I pick out my favorites but I heard "Till The Strings Fall Off" months ago at a concert where co-writers Hitchcock and Adam Doleac were playing and it's been something I've held onto ever since. I guess the anthem of going after your dreams is a big theme in my life currently.

The ninth song on the album is the home of the "Dark Ages" part of the album's title. I know this song will resonate with many people. Sometimes all you can do is put one foot in front of the other and know that the darkness won't last forever. "Wildcat" is a song about a particular type of girl, mainly one from Kentucky, that a lucky guy happens to meet while at a football game. Who doesn't love a girl who loves sports? "Jet Skis" is the slightly random, fun-loving song on this album. I mean have you ever heard of anyone not being happy while on a Jet Ski? Nearing the end of the album, there's nostalgia haunting a man as he remembers a past love in "Play Back." Listening to this album all the way through is definitely recommended...you may even discover an extra acoustic song there at the end.
