L. Subramaniam is an accomplished Indian violinist with an open mind toward fusion and jazz. On this LP Subramaniam is joined on various tracks by keyboardists Herbie Hancock, Stu Goldberg, George Cables and Ronnie Foster, guitarist Larry Coryell and some top studio players. Altoist John Handy (who has long been an exponent of combining Western and Eastern music) has a solo on "Roots." This is an interesting set, but it will be hard to find. --Scott Yanow
